Trauma Therapist | Shades of Healing

Empowering high-achieving women of color to tap into the highest version of themselves without guilt.

You've spent years being capable, dependable, and strong. The person everyone calls when they need support. The person who figures it out. The person who keeps going.

We help women of color uncover the emotional patterns beneath their relationships, heal the wounds underneath them, and reconnect with the essence that has been there all along.

You're here because something keeps repeating.

Different relationship.
Different season of life.
Different version of you.

Yet somehow the feeling stays the same.

You keep carrying more than your share.

You struggle to ask for what you need.

You replay conversations long after they're over.

You find yourself exhausted by the people you love while feeling guilty for feeling that way.

You've done enough personal work to recognize the pattern.

You just don't know why it keeps showing up.

But the version of you everyone depends on is getting tired.

Being the one who stepped up. The one who handled it. The one who adjusted. The one who made sure everyone else was okay. Until one day you realized no one was asking if you were okay. Not because they don't care. Because you've become so good at carrying things that no one realizes how heavy they are.

Every relationship reveals a different shade of you

The version of you that shows up with your partner may not be the same version that shows up at work.

The version of you that appears around your family may not be the same version that appears around your friends. Different relationships often reveal different shades of the same underlying pattern.

Together, we'll slow down enough to understand what those patterns are trying to protect, where they began, and what becomes possible when they no longer have to carry that job.

For so long, you've been showing up for everyone else.

Now it's your turn.

How It Works

Trauma-informed therapy that helps you understand the emotional wounds, relationship experiences, and survival strategies that continue to shape how you see yourself and connect with others.

EMDR therapy that goes beyond insight, helping your brain process difficult experiences so they no longer carry the same emotional weight or influence your life in the same way.

Inner child work that helps you reconnect with the parts of yourself that learned to adapt, overfunction, or put others first, creating space for greater self-trust, authenticity, and emotional freedom.

How we can work together

Trauma therapy

Trauma therapy helps uncover the emotional wounds, survival strategies, and relational experiences that may be influencing how you connect with yourself and others today. Together, we'll explore the root of the pattern so healing can begin at the source.

EMDR therapy

EMDR helps process experiences that may still be stored in your nervous system, allowing you to move through emotional blocks, reduce distress, and experience relief that goes beyond simply talking about the problem.

Meet Jamie Fowler, LCSW —  Black Trauma and EMDR Therapist, and Co-Founder of Shades of Healing

I believe that many of the qualities women are praised for, being strong, selfless, independent, accommodating, are often the very things keeping them disconnected from themselves.

I never planned to become a therapist. I started my career in child protection and school social work, driven by a lifelong passion for vulnerable children and the families around them. What I kept running into wasn't the work itself. It was systems that refused to put children first. In 2020 I stepped into a private practice role almost by accident, and something clicked that I hadn't expected. I loved it. And I finally saw the through-line I had been living all along. When the adult heals, the family heals. The same children I had once advocated for in child protection were being raised by the women I was now sitting with in session. I had always been working at the source. I just hadn't seen it yet.

I opened Shades of Healing in 2021 to build a practice on my own terms, one built around the women I was meant to serve. As a Black woman therapist, I understand that some experiences don't need to be translated before they can be understood. My approach is intentional, compassionate, and rooted in the belief that healing is not about fixing who you are. It's about helping you reconnect with who you've always been underneath the expectations, responsibilities, and survival strategies you've carried for far too long.

The patterns showing up in your life today may have less to do with who you are and more to do with what you needed.

This free guide will help you explore the unmet childhood needs that may still be shaping your relationships, emotions, and sense of self so you can begin healing at the source.

Testimonials

"Working with Jamie has helped me to make a great deal of progress towards my goals. I've been able to begin processing through past experiences and have learned new coping skills."

"Jamie helped me meet my goals by offering insight into why I may think about situations a certain way and how to remove my limiting thoughts from what is actually occurring. Also, made me realize I need to be more kind to myself as I deal with life."

"Since working with Jamie, I'm not the same version of myself that I was when I started sessions and I'm grateful for that. I'm the most open and vulnerable in my life and in my relationships than I have ever been.”

It's time to make space for yourself again.

You've spent enough years being everything for everyone else. Now it's your turn.

Together, we'll help you understand the patterns that have shaped your relationships, heal the wounds underneath them, and reconnect with the version of yourself that no longer has to survive to feel worthy.
