Trauma Therapy | Relational Trauma Therapist

The patterns keeping you stuck aren't just showing up in one relationship. They’re showing up everywhere, and you’re ready to change that.

You tell yourself this time will be different. But somehow you keep finding yourself in the same emotional loops.

Overthinking conversations long after they've ended.

Struggling to ask for what you need. Feeling responsible for everyone else's comfort while quietly neglecting your own. Carrying resentment, guilt, or exhaustion that never seems to fully go away.

Different people.
Different relationships.
Different circumstances.

The same underlying pattern. At Shades of Healing, we help women of color uncover the relational wounds beneath those patterns so healing can happen at the source, not just at the surface.

Trauma doesn't always look like what you think it does. Many women hear the word trauma and assume it doesn't apply to them.

But a lot of times trauma can show up as:

Feeling responsible for everyone else's emotions.

Struggling to ask for help even when you're overwhelmed.

Saying yes when you want to say no.

Constantly second-guessing yourself.

Feeling guilty for resting, slowing down, or putting yourself first.

Becoming overly critical of yourself when things don't go perfectly.

Quietly carrying resentment while convincing yourself you should be able to handle more.

Feeling exhausted by the pressure to keep it all together.

If any of these feel familiar, you're not failing.

Your nervous system may simply be responding to experiences that taught you who you needed to be in order to stay safe, connected, or accepted.

Survival mode is effective. From the outside, it can even look like success.

But eventually, the cost begins to show up in ways that are harder to ignore.

You struggle to enjoy the life you've worked so hard to create. Rest feels uncomfortable. Your relationships start feeling one-sided. You question your needs while prioritizing everyone else's.

You become disconnected from yourself because you've spent so much time focused on what everyone else needs from you. And no matter how much you accomplish, there's still a part of you waiting to feel settled.

The truth is, survival mode was never meant to be a permanent way of living. It was meant to help you get through something. Trauma therapy helps you understand what your mind and body have been protecting you from so you can stop living in reaction to the past and start creating a relationship with yourself that feels more grounded, connected, and free.

Imagine what becomes possible when survival mode is no longer in charge.

  • The people pleasing softens.
  • The guilt gets quieter.
  • The need to carry everything on your own begins to fade.
  • You stop measuring your worth by how much you can handle.
  • You stop abandoning yourself to keep everyone else comfortable.
  • You stop living as the version of yourself that learned how to survive and start reconnecting with the version of yourself that knows how to live.

The version that can rest. The version that can receive. The version that can trust herself. The version that no longer has to earn love, belonging, or worthiness. It's time to return to the essence that has been there all along.

Trauma therapy helps you move beyond simply understanding your patterns and begin healing the experiences underneath them.

As old wounds lose their grip, you can start setting boundaries without guilt, trusting yourself more deeply, showing up more authentically in your relationships, and creating a life that feels less like survival and more like your own.

Meet Jamie Fowler, LCSW

As a trauma therapist and EMDR therapist, I've spent years helping women move beyond simply understanding their patterns and begin healing the experiences underneath them.

My approach is intentional, compassionate, and focused on creating lasting change. In therapy with me, you'll find a space where you don't have to carry everything alone, explain every part of your experience, or have all the answers before you begin.

Because there are enough places in your life where you have to push through.

This isn't one of them.

Let's start with a conversation about where you are, where you'd like to be, and how we can work together to get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What type of therapy is best for trauma?

The best type of therapy depends on your unique experiences and goals. At Shades of Healing, we use trauma-informed approaches including EMDR and inner child work to help you understand the emotional patterns connected to past experiences and create meaningful, lasting change. Together, we'll determine the approach that best supports your healing journey.

  • How do I know if I need trauma therapy?

Trauma therapy may be helpful if you find yourself stuck in recurring patterns such as people pleasing, overthinking, difficulty setting boundaries, chronic guilt, self-doubt, or feeling responsible for everyone else's needs. You don't need to have experienced a single major event to benefit from trauma therapy. Many people discover that past experiences are still influencing how they relate to themselves and others today.

  • How long does trauma therapy take?

Healing looks different for everyone. The length of therapy depends on your goals, experiences, and the areas you'd like to work on. Some clients find relief within a few months, while others choose to continue therapy for deeper healing and ongoing personal growth.

  • What happens in a trauma therapy session?

Trauma therapy is a collaborative process. Sessions may include exploring relationship patterns, processing past experiences, developing coping tools, strengthening self-awareness, and working through emotional wounds using approaches such as EMDR and inner child work. Our work together is always tailored to your individual needs and goals.

  • Can I use my insurance for virtual therapy?

I currently do not accept insurance. I'm out-of-network with insurance providers and can provide a superbill that you may submit for possible reimbursement.

I recommend contacting your insurance company directly to learn more about your out-of-network benefits.

  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

I understand that life happens. If you need to cancel or reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours notice whenever possible.

Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than the required notice may be subject to a cancellation fee.

Please contact me as soon as possible if you need to make changes to your appointment.

The strongest version of you isn't the one carrying everything alone. It's the one who knows she doesn't have to.

If you're ready to move beyond survival mode, heal at the source, and reconnect with the essence of who you truly are, let's begin.
